Innovative Project: E. coli Detection Sensor
Design of polymer imprinted polymer-based sensor for the detection of 1000 food samples per day for Escherichia coli
From October 2024 to June 2025, Shariq worked on an innovative project that showcased his ability to apply chemical engineering principles to real-world problems:
  • Developed a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based electrochemical sensor for rapid, selective detection of E. coli contaminants.
  • Optimized polymer synthesis and sensor calibration to achieve maximum accuracy vs. ELISA standards.
  • Designed an automated sampling prototype to enable scalable food safety testing (1,000 samples/day).
  • Utilized relevant techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and COMSOL simulation.
This project demonstrates Shariq's capability to innovate in the field of chemical engineering, combining polymer science, electrochemistry, and automation to address a critical food safety challenge.
